Hello!

We’re two sisters who grew up in a very modest home. With four people and two teenage girls living in it, the bathroom always seemed to be occupied.  To be honest, there was a second bathroom, but it was located in the basement and the previous homeowners adorned the toilet with a snakeskin seat which gave the two of us the willies. So, the top floor bathroom was always crowded.  It drove our father crazy and confirmed that we were, indeed, Bathroom Hogs.

About Keli: I am in my late thirties (gasp!). I have a beautiful adult daughter and two teenage sons, along with a husband and two cats. When I’m not running around doing everything for everyone (and right now, I literally am not, as I have a broken foot), I also enjoy knitting and playing MMOs. I have been living in Cincinnati for almost fifteen years but would like to move back to the East Coast someday.

  • My Skin It used to be all wonderful and soft, but as a teenager, I loved being in the sun. Add in tanning with baby oil (I know, I know), and it made for some harsh skin in the future. I am very pale with yellow undertones, so I have that pleasant constant jaundiced look going for me. I am always searching for the perfect shade of foundation, and it’s been an uneasy trip.
  • My Hair I have three cowlicks, one on each side of my forehead and then one in the back at the crown. This makes finding cute hairstyles difficult, especially if bangs are involved. I have what hairdressers consider thin hair, but I have tons of it. This makes hairdressers crazy because it takes forever to set up coloring or perms. I actually haven’t had a perm since 1987, but I have colored my hair pretty much every blonde, red, and brunette possible. Though I was born with blonde hair, it’s impossible to know it now just by looking at me. Right now my hair is shoulder length and I haven’t had it cut since April. Most of the time it just gets pulled back in a ponytail or bun.
  • My Nails Right now, my nails are short. I’ve been a nail-biter most of my life, except for a span of about two years where I let them grow out and got manicures. When I started knitting, my nails were constantly in the way and I clipped them, but eventually I went back to my old coping mechanisms and started the daily biting again. It’s very possible I’ll start to grow them out soon.

Products I Love and Loathe

  1. Skin Since my skin always seems dried out and scaly, I am a huge fan of Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar. I usually only put it on right before bed and when I wake up in the morning my skin feels incredibly soft.I know many people have found success with Proactiv, but I am not among them. In fact, the acne I had became increasingly worse when I decided to stop using the kit when my skin became cracked from drying out.
  2. Hair I could be classified as an infrequent washer, but I also wind up using a ton of products when I make my “going out” hair. That said, I love Bumble and Bumble’s Sunday Shampoo. It lathers well, smells good, and gets rid of all the ick!I dye my hair at home frequently to save us some money.Sometimes, I take big risks doing this. Back in April, I decided to get out my “summer hair” and bought a box of Herbal Essences XL2 Blonde Bombshell. It should have been an easy affair, but instead of making a nice breezy blonde color, it sent my hair into fits of clowny orange and white streaks. I was mortified and high tailed it to my closest Mitchell’s Salon and paid well over $150 to get it corrected. Sometimes, I should leave things to the professionals!
  3. Nails I admit I pick my cuticles all the live long day. They can get jaggy and snaggy, so I love using Solar Oil. It softens them right up and it’s great to put a dot of it on top of freshly polished nails so they don’t accidentally smudge before drying. There are very few nail products I haven’t enjoyed in some respect, though some of the “solutions” I tried to stop nail biting were horrible. I’m not sure if anyone even sells or produces them anymore, but there used to be something in a polish type form that my mom would sweep on my nails to give them an “ick” taste. the taste never bothered me though, so I just kept going at it!

About Holly: I am also in my late 30’s and the younger sis. I remember as a kid sneaking to the bus stop early to put on eyeliner, because I wasn’t allowed yet, and SOMEBODY was hogging the bathroom ! I’m a SAHM with two young boys, and am in love with my Hubby of almost 15 yrs. My outward appearence is as important to me as my inward spirit as they may just reflect one another.

  • My Skin My skin is typical of my age range, with a T zone that’s oily. Yet, the underneath of my eyes are too dry. I loathe attemping to fix T zone, only to find I’ve dryed my delicate eye area. I never relieze how many feckles have spattered my face, until I see an upclose picture. So, I desperately protect my skin from the sun, although luv to have a sunkissed glow. It’s a balance and I question daily am I winning ?
  • My Hair My hair is thin with a tinge of wave….not wavy enough to style, but must be blown straight. I’ve been coloring my hair for all my 30’s and plan to continue, my last salon visit my stylist completely bleached it all out. This week I have an appointment for low lights, as I live in the North. I am at best in summer colors.
  • My Nails I like my nails they grow quickly have a nice shape, and naturally grow strong. I keep them short and polished with a buff shade.

Products I Love and Loathe

  1. My #1 is St Ives Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm, luv this face product for cleaning as it containes Alpha Hydroxy. Although something that doesn’t work for cleasing my face is, Cetaphil. It just doesn’t do enough to give me the deep clean my skin needs.
  2. For my hair I adore Silk Remedy, it makes my bleached/dry hair manageable.
I never use Suave products as they seem to deplete my hair of natural oils to the extend of stiff hair.
  3. My favorite product for my nails is Sally Hansen Age Correct Growth Treatment, I should buy stock in it. Sally Hansen Insta-Brite Nail Whitener, is awesome as well. I don’t use color on my nails as my fingers are long and attract enough attention without it.
